75 YEARS LANDSCAPE ARCHITECTURE EDUCATION AT THE UNIVERSITY OF FORESTRY, SOFIA
In 2026, the LANDSCAPE ARCHITECTURE program at the University of Forestry in Sofia will celebrate its 75th anniversary — 75 years dedicated to the development of sustainable green spaces, beautiful landscapes, and livable environments.
- The Department of LANDSCAPE ARCHITECTURE at the Faculty of Ecology and Landscape Architecture, University of Forestry, Sofia, is organizing a series of events to mark this anniversary from 22–25 April 2026, in Sofia and Burgas. The program includes:
- • Official Ceremony in Sofia, featuring opening remarks, greetings, and presentations on the history of the department, education and professional practice, and landscape architecture research in Bulgaria. The event will feature a project exhibition, with active participation from Landscape Architecture students.
- • An
International Conference titled "LANDSCAPE ARCHITECTURE: BRINGING
HARMONY IN A CHANGING WORLD", to be held in Burgas.
- • SITE
VISITS and a LANDSCAPE ARCHITECTS' GALA DINNER.
- • The
"LANDSCAPE ARCHITECT OF THE YEAR" awards ceremony — the annual
event of the UNION OF LANDSCAPE ARCHITECTS IN BULGARIA, also held in
Burgas.
- • A visit to FLORA Burgas (a well-known flower exhibition)
- • The
"LANDSCAPE ARCHITECT OF THE YEAR" awards ceremony — the annual

LANDSCAPE ARCHITECT'S PROFESSION
Landscape Architects plan, design and manage natural and built environments, applying aesthetic and scientific principles to address ecological sustainability, quality and health of landscapes, collective memory, heritage and culture, and territorial justice. By leading and coordinating other disciplines, landscape architects deal with the interactions between natural and cultural ecosystems, such as adaptation and mitigation related to climate change and the stability of ecosystems, socio-economic improvements, and community health and welfare to create places that anticipate social and economic well-being.
